Jack Black delivers a sublime vocal performance in the high-flying animated adventure Kung Fu Panda. And Seann William Scott and John C. Reilly face off in the corporate world comedy The Promotion. Also in theaters: The origin story of Genghis Khan is told in Mongol, and Dario Argento comes roaring back to American screens with the intense apocalyptic horror bonanza Mother of Tears. TV on DVD remains very popular with more and more favorites being released. New TV reviews include:  Absolutely Fabulous - Absolutely Everything - the entire run of this brilliant television show from humble beginnings to big bag endings easily earns a highly recommended rating; 24: Season One (Special Edition) - masterfully executed, deftly cast and brilliantly realized, this inagural season of the show is one of the 21st century's more fascinating prime-time dramas; The Muppet Show - The Complete Third Season - there are so many classic skits this time around with some great hosts that this set is a hard package to say no to. This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: Easy Living - Jean Arthur, Ray Milland and Edward Arnold are too funny for words in this Preston Sturges-scripted screwball look at haves and have-nots in 1937 Manhattan. A great lighthearted comedy in which sable coats can and do fall out of the sky; Night of the Living Dead 40th Anniversary - Break out the candles and noisemakers, as the original stompin' and chompin' zombies are back! George Romero's original fright fest is just as effective as when it became notorious for traumatizing little Chicagoites back in 1968. With a body-bag full of well-produced extras; and Carve Her Name With Pride - Virginia McKenna is the true life secret agent Violette Szabo in Roy Ward Baker's suspenseful, patriotic tale of wartime espionage. Violette loses her soldier husband and then dedicates herself to continuing his war, but on different terms; Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

Another banner week for DVDs with the studios releasing some great films and boxed sets such as:  The Longest Day (Blu-ray) [review] - A monumental, genre-altering war epic this film was a major critical and commercial success and for the most part it still holds up extremely well today; Weeds - Season Three - America's favorite pot-dealing soccer mom is back in this hilarious and subversive show; and Mike Judge and Don Hertzfeldt present The Animation Show: Volume 3 [review]- a wildly inventive variety of styles and equally varied subject matters, there's something here for nearly everyone.; Other releases of note include:  Semi-Pro [review], Mannix - The First Season and The Andromeda Strain Miniseries.
