The DVDTalk Holiday Movie Challenge
Holiday Movie Challenge With the holidays fast approaching, no other time would better to partake in The 5th Annual Holiday Movie Challenge. Along the same lines as The Horror Movie Challenge, this event allows you to watch holiday related movies! Beginning Monday November 23rd and continuing all the way through New Years Day, that’s more than 35 days of holiday goodness. The goal of the challenge is to watch as many holiday films and shows as you want to and to simply enjoy the time of year by viewing holiday movies you may have loved as child. You are allowed to include more than just movies too. TV shows, shorts and pretty much anything else you can think of qualifies. Any holiday that falls into that time counts, may it be Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukah, New Years, etc. include it! It's an enjoyable event that can be fun for the whole family. Read the rules, post your lists, and discuss your favorite holiday films with other members. Most of all, have fun!

New Movie Reviews: The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Blind Side, and Red Cliff
Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner try to figure out this thing call monster love in the highly anticipated sequel The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Sandra Bullock refuses sass, heals the world in the drama The Blind Side. And master actioner John Woo takes on history in the Chinese epic Red Cliff. Also in theaters: Pedro Almodovar and Penelope Cruz fine tune their melodramatic skills in Broken Embraces. And it's aliens vs. aliens in the CG-animated comedy Planet 51. Anime Talk: Blood the Last Vampire and What a Wonderful World
Anime Talk It's hard to believe it, but Thanksgiving is next week. It truly feels like this year has flown by and the time for each Anime Talk column creeps up on us so fast it's not even funny. For this month's instalment, John and Todd have dug through some fantastic stuff. Unfortunately there's also some not so great anime as well, but we'll let our reviews speak for themselves. There's also reviews of the Blood the Last Vampire live action film as well as Viz's latest manga series What a Wonderful World. We also have another round of fantastic bargains supplied by everyone's favorite anime shopper WTK. With that being said, let's get this column going before the turkey is done! (Or tofurkey for the vegans out there.)

Recently Announced Discs: Planet Hulk, Halo Legends, and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs
Planet Hulk Some cool discs are going to be released in the near future. Check out these newly announced titles: Planet Hulk on DVD and Blu-ray - Based on the hit comic series, the green behemoth is exiled to an alien planet which he proceeds to conquer. Available on 2/2/10; Halo Legends on DVD and Blu-ray - A collection of seven short animated movies based on the ever popular video game franchise. It arrives on 2/9/10; Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs on DVD and Blu-ray - When a young scientist creates a machine that can turn water into food, he creates an unusual problem. On store shelves on 1/5/10; and Mad Dog Morgan - Troma releases this classic 70's Australian film staring Dennis Hopper on 11/23/09. DVD Savant: It's a Wonderful Life, Up, and Notes on Marie Menken
It's a Wonderful Life This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: It's a Wonderful Life [Blu-ray] - Let's give a round of applause for the film restorers; this new Blu-ray of America's favorite Christmas film looks splendid in HD. A double Blu-ray disc release with a second colorized version; UP - Pixar's latest dazzler comes in a can't-miss all-format 4-Disc Combo Pack: Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy. What, no laserdisc? Carl, Russell, Kevin and Dug the Dog's Lost World adventure is easily the most entertaining picture so far this year; and Notes on Marie Menken - Martina Kudlácek assembles a detailed biography of a famed New York avant-garde filmmaker, a subject that also gives an interesting perspective on Andy Warhol's Manhattan art "Factory". This Week's Notable DVDs: Star Trek, Bruno, and Andy Barker, P.I.
Star Trek (2009) Some great discs are coming to DVD this week. Check out the hottest releases including: Star Trek (2009) [Blu-ray review]- this film is 120 minutes of unrelenting goose bumps; Gone with the Wind (70th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition) [Blu-ray review]- this is a film that continues to be so wholly captivating that its four hour run time seems perhaps half that, and its popularity and influence cannot be overstated; and Bruno [DVD review, Blu-ray review] - a film that contains plenty of belly laughs as well as audible gasps. New DVD Reviews: Gilda Live, The Roller Derby Chronicles, and Black Rain
Gilda Live Check out the latest DVD reviews that have been entered into the DVD Talk Review Database including: Gilda Live - a chronicle of Gilda Radner's 1979 live Broadway show featuring many of the popular characters she had invented for SNL ; The Roller Derby Chronicles - a highly entertaining three-disc set devoted to the history of this wholly American sport. It is one of reviewer Paul Mavis' favorite releases this year; and Black Rain - this potent film about the World War II bombing in Hiroshima is simply magnificent.
