New TV reviews include: Archer: Season 7 - this season brings Sterling Archer back into more of his spy realm for longtime fans and admirers of the show, but it isn't up to past ones; Veep: The Complete Fifth Season - the show was in the zone this season, possibly their best to date; and Silicon Valley: The Complete Third Season - the show remains hugely entertaining, thanks to a fantastic cast, enjoyable characters and a storyline that's satisfyingly well-crafted. Notable Releases: Split, House, and Ludwig
Split Several great movies and programs have come out recently, including a few that shouldn't be missed: Split - M. Night Shyamalan take a step back in the right direction with this film that builds an enormous amount of suspense at unexpected moments and remains unsettling despite its admittedly ridiculous premise; House: Two Stories - both movies remain plenty entertaining and the presentation here, along with the extras, is impressive; and Ludwig - Luchino Visconti's movie has its flaws to be certain but Helmet Burger is great in the titular lead role and the film really is a feast for the eyes. New Reviews: Kiss of Death, The Delinquents, and Ride The High Country
Kiss of Death (1947) Some cool discs have been reviewed over the past week. Check out these recent entries: Kiss of Death (1947) - a great new restoration of a film noir classic... Richard Widmark's gleeful psychopath is iconic and unforgettable, while Victor Mature's soulful lead performance proves he was more than just a handsome beefcake; The Delinquents - director Robert Altman’s first feature istechnically proficient, mostly well-acted, and definitely not the exploitation "B" its title and lurid advertising suggests; and Ride The High Country - an early gem by a director Sam Peckinpah, this film is a solid Western with terrific performances, very little fat, and a memorable score by George Bassman.
