New Movie Reviews: Bangkok Dangerous and Mister Foe
The first weekend of September is always a quiet time for movie releases, leaving the field wide open for the one and only Nicolas Cage, guided by the Pang Brothers, to liven up the film scene with the goofy action spectacle Bangkok Dangerous. And Jamie Bell gives a tour de force performance in the raw psychological drama/voyeurism odyssey Mister Foe. Be sure to catch reviews of other recent Theatrical Films: Babylon A.D., Disaster Movie, College, Another Gay Sequel: Gays Gone Wild!, Traitor, The House Bunny, Death Race, Hamlet 2, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Tropic Thunder, Mirrors, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Mamma Mia!, Pineapple Express, and The Dark Knight. As always, we invite you to share your thoughts on films In Theaters in our Movie Talk Forum.

TV on DVD: The Doctor, The Wire, and Gossip Girl
Doctor Who - The Five Doctors: 25th Anniversary Edition It seems like every week there's another great TV show that appears on DVD and this one is no exception. Recent TV on DVD reviews include: Doctor Who - The Five Doctors: 25th Anniversary Edition - enormous fun for fans of Classic Doctor Who; The Wire - The Complete Fifth Season - a fascinating drama that does not fail to entertain. This show is television at its best and something everyone should see; and Gossip Girl - The Complete First Season [2nd review] - The humor and the melodrama both edge on camp, which keeps this story of scheming rich kids at a New York private school from ever getting dull. Flashy and trashy, it's fun, fun, fun. Other shows recently reviewed include:  Shelley Duvall's Faerie Tale Theatre: The Complete Collection, The Shield - The Complete Sixth Season, and Brideshead Revisited -- 25th Anniversary Collector's Edition.  Want more?  Check out all of the TV on DVD reviews in the DVDTalk database.

DVD Savant: Chicago 10, Brand Upon the Brain, and Pete Kelly's Blues
Chicago 10 This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: Chicago 10 - Brett Morgen adds animation to flesh out Nixon's show trial, creating a strong contrast with the excellent coverage of the '68 Chicago riots. History's verdict may come down on the side of the protesters -- and maybe not; Brand Upon the Brain! - Guy Maddin's utterly mad tale of family struggles, dark secrets and strange disguises takes place in a fantasy lighthouse, filtered through Maddin's fractured silent film technique; and Pete Kelly's Blues - I don't care if the movie has problems, it's still a terrific experience. Jack Webb crams his 1920s bandstand 'n' gangsters epic with great music and singing from Ella Fitzgerald and Peggy Lee. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
