DVD Talk Reporting Live from The New York Comic Con
DVD Talk writer Francis Rizzo III is at the 2009 NY Comic-Con and is filing live reports from the show floor. He's braving the frigid weather so you don't have to! New Movie Reviews: Pink Panther 2, Push, and Coraline
Steve Martin is back as Inspector Clouseau in the slapstick comedy sequel nobody asked for, The Pink Panther 2. Mental warfare is declared on the streets of Hong Kong in the sci-fi actioner Push. And stop-motion animation meet Neil Gaiman in the fantasy film Coraline. Also in theaters: A horde of lovesick gorgeous people try to find romance in a world of betrayal in the dramedy He's Just Not That Into You. And check out reviews of more films vying for statues at the 2009 Academy Awards: The Visitor, Tropic Thunder, Rachel Getting Married, Kung Fu Panda, and The Duchess. TV on DVD: Tripping the Rift, Mannix, and Diary Of A Call Girl
Tripping the Rift: The Complete Third Season TV on DVD remains very popular with more and more favorites being released. New TV reviews include:  Tripping the Rift: The Complete Third Season - a laugh out loud blend of parody, social satire, and an obvious love of movies sprinkled with a dark sense of humor; Mannix: The Second Season - one of the all time greats in the long history of television private eyes; and Secret Diary Of A Call Girl - Season One - a simple, relaxed confection of a series that aims for dry laughs and even drier contemplations about identity complications -- and becomes fully amusing in the process. DVD Savant: Electric Cars, Edge of the City, and Far from the Madding Crowd
Who Killed the Electric Car? This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: Who Killed the Electric Car? - Chris Paine's documentary tale of a better, cleaner mousetrap sabotaged by corporate greed is essential viewing in the present climate of auto company bailouts. An important, positive message movie; Edge of the City - Porter Sidney Poitier and fugitive John Cassavetes meet in the New York freight yards in Martin Ritt's first feature film. Part of the Sidney Poitier Collection; and Far from the Madding Crowd - John Schlesinger's superior period romance stars Julie Christie as a 19th century landowner pursued by Terence Stamp, Peter Finch and Alan Bates. Recently Announced Discs: Wings, Synecdoche New York, and Saturday Morning Cartoons
Wings: Complete Series Pack As long as we keep buying them, the studios will continue to release new discs. Recently announced DVDs and Blu-rays of note include: Wings: Complete Series Pack - Get all eight seasons of the well regarded sitcom created by the people behind "Cheers" and "Fraiser." The 27-disc set is available on DVD 4-14-09; Writer Charlie Kaufman ("Being John Malkovich," "Adaptation," and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind") directs his first feature with Synecdoche New York, [Blu-ray] The mind-bending film hits shelves on 3-10-09; and Warner is releasing a two-disc collection of fondly remembered cartoons in Saturday Morning Cartoons: 1970's it arrives on 5-19-09. This Week's Notable DVDs: Zack and Miri, The Secret Life of Bees, and Being There
Zack and Miri Make a Porno) Another banner week for DVDs with the studios releasing some great films and boxed sets such as: Zack and Miri Make a Porno [review] - Kevin Smith's latest film is fun, sweet and certainly a good time; The Secret Life of Bees [review]- a solid, entertaining story about hope and forgiveness and finding a place in the world when it seems like there is nowhere to fit it; and Being There: Deluxe Edition [DVD review, Blu-ray review]- Anyone who doesn't already own the movie is going to want to rectify that tout suite.
