New Movie Reviews: Star Trek, Girlfriend Experience, and Next Day Air
Kirk, Spock, and the Enterprise fly high again in J.J. Abrams's spirited reboot of the all-holy sci-fi franchise Star Trek. DVD Talk critics Brian Orndorf, Jamie S. Rich, and David Walker review the hotly anticipated film. Adult film siren Sasha Grey and director Steven Soderbergh invite audiences to enjoy The Girlfriend Experience. And a box of cocaine is delivered into the wrong hands in the pot-laced action comedy Next Day Air. Also in theaters: Did Donnie Darko need a sequel? The horrible answer is S. And director Kirby Dick explores politicians and homosexuality in the documentary Outrage. TV on DVD: X-Men, Connections, and The Dana Carvey Show
X-Men, Volume 1 Some great TV shows have made their way onto DVD this week including:  X-Men, Volume 1 - Great voice acting, intelligent, well-paced storytelling, and good old-fashioned comic book action make this series a must-own for X-Men fans; Connections 1 - an excellent documentary series that is engaging, intelligent, entertaining, and most of all thought provoking; and The Dana Carvey Show - a go-for-broke comedy skit show that wins us over on its bravura, and even the dated stuff still feels fresh. Other shows recently reviewed include:  Caprica, Skins: Vol. 2 and The Zeta Project: Season 1.  Want more?  Check out all of the TV on DVD reviews in the DVDTalk database.

DVD Savant: Plague Town, Danton, and Frost/Nixon
The Day The Earth Stood Still (2008) This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: Plague Town [Blu-ray] - Mutants roam the nighttime mist in a superior tale of terror -- mixing over-the-top gore with unexpected scenes of creeping dread. 70s horror thrills return in Dark Sky's production, directed by David Gregory; Danton - Andrzej Wajda filters Polish politics through a Polish-French "intimate spectacle" about the clash between Georges Danton and Robespierre during the Reign of Terror. Excellent history and drama; great performances by Gérard Depardieu and Wojciech Pszoniak; and Frost/Nixon [Blu-ray] - Ron Howard's film version of Peter Morgan's play is an entertaining show with a strange non-committal attitude about the controversial president. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

DVDTalk Giveaway: The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin
The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin This week we have a special giveaway from E1 Entertainment for The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin (view clip) - available for the first time ever on DVD in region one. This groundbreaking BBC comedy series tells the story of a man desperate to escape his daily monotony. Adapted by David Nobbs from his darkly-comedic novel, and powered by the unique performance of Leonard Rossiter, this brilliant satire had the world "cracking up" over one man's nervous breakdown. Reginald Perrin (Rossiter) has a respectable career at Sunshine Desserts, a happy marriage and two less than satisfactory children. But the pressures of the rat race and the constant droning of his cliché-filled boss are beginning to push Reggie over the edge... what's an overstressed food firm executive to do? Featuring all 3 seasons (21 episodes) of the acclaimed series, the 4 DVD set also includes the bonus documentary The Very Best of Leonard Rossiter as well as the Reginald Perrin Christmas Special Sketch (never before seen by U.S. audiences). Enter now for your chance to win one of 5 copies of the The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin - now on DVD!

New DVD Reviews: The Last Horror Film, Nickelodeon / The Last Picture Show, Galaxy Quest: Deluxe Edition
The Last Horror Film Our reviewers have been busy this week, filling the DVD Talk Review Database more great entries. Some new reviews of note include: The Last Horror Film - this underrated film should be considered one of the genre's greats; Nickelodeon / The Last Picture Show - a great pairing of Peter Bogdanovich's 1971 masterpiece along with his fascinating, if little scene, 1976 movie; and Galaxy Quest: Deluxe Edition - a tragically underrated sci-fi/comedy classic this new release offers up a slightly improved image while adding an impressively entertaining slate of new extras. Other recent reviews include: VCI's accurately titled collection of oaters, Darn Good Westerns, Taken [2nd review], and O Jerusalem.  Visit the DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.
