Anime Talk: The Dragon Box, Nabari no Ou and manga reviews
Anime Talk Welcome to the Christmas Eve edition of Anime Talk! Despite being busy for the holidays John and Todd have been scrambling to get reviews done. Trust us when we tell you it has been a challenge! There are so many releases this time of year and neither of our piles have dissipated during the past month or so. Some awesome stuff has come out, but then again there has been some not-so-awesome stuff as well. This month we're also featuring some manga reviews as we try to expand our coverage! WTK comes by with some more bargains as well! Finally, all of us here at Anime Talk hope everyone has a happy holiday with friends and family, and that you all are able to stay warm during these winter months. TV on DVD: The Paper Chase, The Tudors, and Star Trek on Blu-ray
Farscape: The Complete Series From classic dramas and SF to a modern take on the middle ages, DVD Talk has the newest TV releases covered including: The Paper Chase - Season Two - one of the great TV dramas of the 1980s, really a must-see; The Tudors: The Complete Third Season - the political and romantic intrigues are as thick as ever; and Star Trek: The Original Series - Season 3 (Blu-ray) - While it isn't as strong as the first two seasons that came before it, this third and final batch of episodes is still a lot of fun. The Most Impressive Discs of 2009 This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: The Most Impressive Discs of 2009 - Savant chooses his subjective favorite DVDs and Blu-Rays, coming up with a list to baffle video lovers stand the test of time and good taste. With an essay about the state of home video discs; The Battle of Chile - The document of modern South American history ... filmed in 1972 and 1973, before and during the Coup D'Etat against President Salvador Allende's government in Chile. A four-disc set that includes director Patricio Guzmán's 1997 follow-up feature, Chile, Obstinate Memory; and The Animation of Alexeïeff - Facets Video collects most of the animation work of Alexandre Alexeïeff and Claire Parker, inventors of the amazing animation pinscreen. Recently Announced Discs: Toy Story 1 & 2 and Mickey Rooney: Long & Short of It
Toy Story There are a few discs scheduled for early next year that should get film buffs excited. Check out these new titles: Toy Story and Toy Story 2 on Blu-ray - Can't wait for next summer's release of Toy Story 3? Pick up the first two films in HD! They will be available on 3/23/10; and Mickey Rooney: Long & Short of It - Infinity Entertainment Group is going to release a 6 disc tribute to the diminutive yet popular screen star. Containing 14 movies(!), shorts, television apperances, and trailers covering his entire career, this should be an exciting collection. It will arrive on 1/26/10. This Week's Notable DVDs: District 9 and (500) Days of Summer
District 9 This week sees a couple of highly anticipated releases hitting store shelves, along with several other solid titles: District 9 [DVD review] - the perfect mix of popcorn film and thoughtful drama; (500) Days of Summer - [DVD review] - a rare romantic comedy that cares about its characters and tries to make some sense of what they are going through. Other releases of note include:  It Might Get Loud, Family Guy Presents: Something Something Something Dark Side.
