Anime Talk The Anime Talk reviewers have been surviving the blizzards that have been tearing through the country, and these foot+ snowstorms have afforded them plenty of time to catch up on anime! After all, is there anything better than curling up close to the TV with a mug of hot cocoa? For this column they've got a couple of manga reviews as well as a decent supply of anime write ups to peruse as stuff like Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne, Sands of Destruction, Linebarrels of Iron, and D.Gray Man (Blu-ray) all landed on their doorstep. Oh, and a little title called Halo Legends (Blu-ray) is featured at the bottom. WTK brings a selection of the best bargains you'll find on the web as well, so if you find yourself with some extra income I'm sure he'll find a way for you to separate yourself from it. Read all this and more in this month's Anime Talk!

Talking Out of Frame: Roberto Rossellini, Che, and Paris, Texas
Talking Out of Frame One month into 2010, and we already have what seems like an embarrassment of riches in terms of DVDs. Criterion has really knocked it out of the park with their new boxed set Roberto Rossellini's War Trilogy - Watching this collection doesn't feel like you're just watching movies, but like you are watching history; the three-disc Che set, also from Criterion earns the DVD Talk Collector Series rating, and then there's Wim Wenders' drama Paris, Texas which is described as "a film of countless pleasures." Check out all that and much, much more in this month's installment of Talking Out of Frame: Arthouse Cinema on DVD.

Recently Announced Discs: The Princess and the Frog, Ninja Assassin, Doctor Who
The Princess and the Frog Some great (and not so great) movies have been scheduled for release. Check out these newly announced titles: The Princess and the Frog on DVD and Blu-ray - Disney's latest animated feature arrives on 3/16/10; Ninja Assassin on DVD and Blu-ray - just because DVD Talk's review of the theatrical release called it "a confused, tedious merging of absurdly overcooked violence and a drab screenplay" doesn't mean it's not worth checking out when it is released on 3/16/10. Or maybe it does; and Doctor Who: Dreamland on DVD - David Tennant stars in the second animated Doctor Who adventure to be released on DVD. Look for it on 5/4/10. Keep track of all the upcoming releases with the DVDTalk Release List.

DVD Savant: Bad Girls of Film Noir, Countdown, and The Last Stage
Bad Girls of Film Noir Volume 1 This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: Bad Girls of Film Noir Volume 1 - Columbia reaches into its "B" noir racks to come up with a fistful of femmes, some more fatale than others: Evelyn Keyes, Lola Albright, Lizabeth Scott and Gloria Grahame. The films in question are The Killer that Stalked New York, Two of a Kind, Bad for Each Other and The Glass Wall; Countdown - Robert Altman's first major studio feature gives us a superior suspense film about the space race to the moon, with good performances from James Caan, Robert Duvall, Barbara Baxley and Joanna Moore. The film is all the more daring, considering that it was made the year before the Apollo moon landing; and The Last Stage - Wanda Jakubowska's harrowing tale of Auschwitz is probably the earliest and certainly one of the most graphic -- it was filmed in the actual concentration camp just three years after the close of the war. This is a problem picture: influenced by pro-Soviet propaganda, it's accurate in some details and shamefully deceitful in others. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

DVDTalk Interview: A conversation with Michael Hoffman
Michael Hoffman Michael Hoffman for a while now has been delivering solid work ranging from the hilarious Soapdish to even his impressive take on Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. His latest film The Last Station falls perfectly into his long line of successes. DVD Talk writer Jack Giroux had a chance to talk with the director about his work, love, and Tolstoy. Read the whole interview here and don't miss out on our earlier interviews including talks with Jonathan Mostow and Terry Gilliam.

This Week's Notable DVDs: A Serious Man, Rod Serling, and The Time Traveler's Wife
A Serious Man Some great discs are being released this week. Check out these new movies: A Serious Man [DVD review, Blu-ray review] - another challenging, memorable film from the Coen brothers - one that invites and rewards multiple viewings; Rod Serling - Studio One Dramas [DVD review] - Featuring two original scripts by Serling, both teleplays are deftly executed, done-in-one dramas, and well worth repeat viewings; and The Time Traveler's Wife [Blu-ray review] - a mood piece on the concept of free will, smashed into the center of an engrossing love story. Other releases of note include:  Dangerous Man [DVD review], Stephen Romano Presents Shock Festival [DVD review], and Endgame (2009) [DVD review]. Be sure to check out our DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.

New DVD Reviews: Top Gear, Wild Oranges, The House of the Devil
Top Gear: The Complete Season 12 Some great DVD reviews have been added to the the DVD Talk Review Database recently including: Top Gear: The Complete Season 12 - brings more of the funny and remains one the better (or at least more entertaining) shows on television; Wild Oranges - a good early example of the kind of crazed melodrama that would eventually prove to be King Vidor's specialty; and The House of the Devil - a slow-burn film that gives us a likeable character thrust into a situation that slowly gets out of hand. Other recent reviews include: Electric Purgatory, The Good Soldier , and Alien Planet.  Visit the DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews.
