DVD Savant: Flash Gordon, Stop-Motion Marvels, and Special Bulletin
Flash Gordon This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: Flash Gordon - With its gaudy designs and eye-popping color, Dino de Laurentiis's 1980 comic book space opera is a visual delight in Blu-ray; Stop-Motion Marvels! - An extensive collection of vintage stop-motion shorts, including a number of rare films from the Kinex Collection. The professional-grade presentation comes with an informative color pamphlet and sevaral commentaries, including one by animator Jim Danforth; and Special Bulletin - Suspenseful and realistic, this 1983 simulated-reality account of a nuclear extortion incident in Charleston harbor makes some strong points about government policy and the news media. Rogue scientists threaten to detonate a homemade bomb, and demand that their anti-nuke manifesto be televised. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

This Week's Notable DVDs: Curb Your Enthusiasm, Caddyshack, and Animation Express
Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Complete Seventh Season Some pretty cool discs are being released this week. Check out these new titles: Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Complete Seventh Season [DVD review, another DVD review] - The Seinfeld season... this is a show that is continuing to take big chances and unusual risks deep into its run, while maintaining the acid tongue, clever construction, and wry point of view that has made it such a terrific comic series; Caddyshack [Blu-ray review] - even thirty years on, this movie remains fresh, funky, and deliriously funny; and Animation Express [Blu-ray review] - this expansive collection of short subjects brilliantly showcases the power and artistry that animation has to offer. It's not a total loss however. There are some new releases you might want to check out:  From Paris with Love [Blu-ray review], Not the Messiah [Blu-ray review], and Happy Together [Blu-ray review]. Be sure to check out our DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.
