TV Reviews: Westworld and PAW Patrol
Some great TV shows have made their way onto home video recently including:
Westworld: The Complete First Season - an intelligent reimagining of its source, this show concerns a Wild West-themed futuristic theme park populated by highly advanced androids where, for $40,000 a day, the richest of the rich can indulge in sex at the local brothel and violent gunplay with machines that bleed realistically but programmed not to harm them back; and PAW Patrol: The Great Snow Rescue - still going strong after more than four years (a lifetime, as far as kids shows go), and that's a good thing because it's been a consistently fun and entertaining show.

Notable Releases: Atomic Blonde, Cease Fire, and Le Samourai
There are a few new releases that you won't want to miss. Check out these hot titles:
Atomic Blonde - director David Leitch brings a familiarly gritty, stylized presence to the spy-thriller graphic novel adaptation, capturing both combat and conversations with mesmerizing visuals and ‘80s tunes that consistently interweave with the narrative itself; Cease Fire - 3D - a semi-documentary depiction of the last days of the Korean War, shot on real battlefield locations, using real soldiers, more or less playing themselves, firing real ammunition; and Le Samourai - quite simply one of the finest crime drama/noirs ever made and the very embodiment of cinematic cool... Criterion has done a nice job giving the film a more than respectable high definition presentation.

New Reviews: The Dark Tower, Jabberwocky, and Annabelle: Creation
Some cool discs have been reviewed over the past week. Check out these recent entries:
The Dark Tower - this truncated, superficial adaptation of Stephen King's series squanders a talented cast with a stop-start narrative that neither satisfies fans nor appropriately introduces newcomers to the material; Jabberwocky: Criterion Collection - Terry Gilliam's film is a fascinating little slice of film history for the soon-to-be celebrated director… there's a certain level of enjoyment here, including a likable lead performance by Michael Palin and a substantial atmosphere that defies its extremely modest budget; and Annabelle: Creation - a worthy entry in the Conjuring universe and an improvement upon Annabelle, this sequel offers an increased mythology for the Annabelle doll and its corresponding demon and is nicely directed.
