Max and Henry are Biology/Genetics lab assistants at a non-descript (read-UCLA) university in Southern California. After many years of hard work they have finally broken the genetic code that will allow mankind to clone anything or anyone it wants. The chair of the department Dr. Jonas (Eugene Levy) is essentially clueless about the entire process but dangles Assistant Proffesor status over the boy's heads should their cloning process work. When they successfully clone a hamster the president of the University sees green and pushes Jonas for a public display of the "Hyper-Replicator" for the benefit of the schools many benefactors. Word of this leaks out and a reporter for the magazine, Modern Science, shows up for an impromptu interview on the entire process.
This is no ordinary frumpy "Columbo-esque"reporter mind you. In an alternate dimension, a power-mad wizard controls both life and death in his icy world. Crafted from ice crystals harvested from the sun, Abraham toys with tortures and ultimately destroys the humans he tricks into entering his dimension. So great has his power become that all the angels in heaven and all the devils in hell are beginning to wonder whether they will be the next focus of Abraham's attention. Unable to do battle with Abraham themselves, the angels and devils enlist the aid of Allison, a young woman who has recently committed suicide. She is brought back to life for one purpose only, and that is to destroy the wizard before he kills the last of his human prisoners and sets his sights on both heaven and hell.
It's hard to believe that no "big" studio exec has tapped Eric Stanze on the s...Read the entire review

With the successes of Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet under his belt, Anderson entered the live-action set with this wonderful Sci-Fi series. The idea of getting up close and personal with your favorite musical personalities in an acoustic environment is a refreshing entry in an all too stagnant music pool. This is not Lauryn Hill of the Fugees or the Lauryn hill of the Sister Act films. This is not even the Lauryn Hill of the 12x-platinum,multi-grammy winning CD the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. This is Lauryn Hill stripped bare to her most simplistic elements presenting her soul for all to hear. Lauryn Hill Unplugged 2.0 is a very personal set of 13 gritty songs that speak to the reality of life without all the clicks and whistles. These songs are not lilting Top Fourty hits that are going to get a lot of airplay (if any). They are songs that play like the soundtracks of our lives.
A...Read the entire review

Throughout the movie, Alex maintains his innocence but that hardly seems the point of the film. Regardless of whether he's guilty or not, it is apparent that Alex is in need of a change, a change from without and within. Truly Alex is a prisoner, not only physically, but mentally as well. His visits with his parents and his brother are cathartic on both sides. These visits are where we are introduced to the elements that helped propel Alex into the world he now inhabits. His father (Billy Dee Williams) is a harsh and rough-edged man that feels the only way to communicate with Alex is by constantly bringing up past mistakes by comparing Alex's failures to his brother's successes. Tomasina (Nicole Ari Parker) has done the best she can for her current assignment and when she attempts to actually make "good" television, she's fired and left to fend for herself in the very competitive world of Television Production. An up and coming Major TV Network is looking to cash in on the burgeoning "Urban Market" by way of hiring its very first Black TV Executive. Enter George Washington. It's the break he's been working for and it appears he's finally getting his shot at the big time. "Tommy" pitches her ideas to George and catches a break with a script she's written entitled "Just Us". Conceding to a minor change in her character design, the contract is signed and the pilot is ...Read the entire review

My introduction to Benny Hill "101" came by way of PBS. "Yes, Prime Minister", "The Goodies", "Are You Being Served?", "Keeping up with Appearances", "Butterflies Are Free" and "Benny Hill" were all staples of the British comedy wave that took America's Public Broadcasting Stations by storm in the mid seventies. Edgier, and definitely far more liberal in the nudity and "blue" language and innuendo departments, these "Brit" comedies were/are a welcome change from the traditional American fare. In the two discs of this collection, six hours of the "best" of Benny Hill have been assembled. Including a 50-minute documentary on the man himself entitled, "Benny Hill, The World's Favorite Clown". In describing Benny's Humor for the uninitiated, I'd have to say that...Read the entire review

All published reports identified Wayne Williams as the murderer even though he was never convicted for the deaths of even one of Atlanta's murdered babies. On a tip provided by an Atlanta Councilwoman, two reporters from SPIN magazine went down to Atlanta and with the help of a retired law enforcement officer, worked to uncover the truth about the murders and more importantly the names of the murderers and other involved parties. The tale they tell is both gruesome and heart-wrenching. Even with the enormous amount of time that had passed since the Criminal investigation and Williams' conviction, their work was met with less than enthusiastic responses by both the City of Atlanta and the local and Federal agencies involved in the case. In 1931 Universal Studios released the hugely successful film, Dracula. Featuring none other than the captivatingly beautiful yet haunting performance of the screen's first "Dracula", Bela Lugosi. Due to the tremendous success of that film, Universal sought to re-create the same experience by creating a sequel. What they came up with was Dracula's Daughter in 1936 and her sibling Son of Dracula in 1943. Quite frankly, that Dracula even had children was a bit of a surprise however, their cinematic entries while very different in approach, are both first-class efforts. Now come with me to the land where the vampire and werewolf are real and the Frankenstein monster still roams the countryside. This latest incarnation finds a group of hi-tech thieves breaking into what they believe to be a vault filled to the rim with all manner of treasure. Certain that the casket contains treasure and not a corpse, the thieves attempt to move it from its perch so as to get it into their waiting transport. The vault however, has a few security measures installed that make this prospect shall we say...unwise. Much like the ornate and elaborate productions he presents, Lionheart puts his all into every role he has ever played and creates a realism and depth not seen since The Bard himself put these words to paper. In what was sure to be his crowning glory, Lionheart put together a production of the collected works of Shakespeare that should have garnered him the coveted "Critics Circle Choice Award". Unfortunately, all he received was tremendous embarrassment at the hands rather, words of this band of critics. Scathing would be too nice a term applied to the venom they spewed regarding his acting and interpretation of these collected works. Boris Karloff's portrayal of the long dead nobleman sent shockwaves throughout the industry and became a bonafide blockbuster for its time. Given the tremendous box office the Mummy generated, a sequel was inevitable. The Mummy's Hand picks up many years later in the sands of Egypt. This time archeologist Steve Banning (Dick Foran) and his trusty sidekick "Babe" (Wallace Ford) are trying to scrounge up enough cash to excavate the area where they believe the tomb of Princess Ananka is buried. After being rebuffed by the local museum's director, Professor Andoheb (George Zucco) the duo set out to find an investor who'll see merit in their proposal and fund their dig. In the interim they are content to drown their miseries at the local bar. Once there Babe sets out to con as man...Read the entire review

When we left The Mummy and Mehemet at the close of The Mummy's Tomb, The Mummy was "destroyed" and Mehemet came to a well-earned end. Prior to Mehemet coming to America, he received his charge from the High Priest of the Temple of Karnak who died as soon as he conveyed the change in power. Somehow, that then-dead high priest shows up again in the very beginning of the Mummy's Ghost, which is Chapter three in this four-story tale of the Mummy. Evidently, Karnak "Whose strength could shatter the world" was not a strong enough god in the previous two entries and has been replaced by the god Arcam. Andoheb whose arm was shattered when he was shot and then broke his neck falling down the temple steps-and who later died, is now alive and has called another priest to take over where Mehemet left off. This time it's Yousef Bey (John Carradine) (maybe mehm...Read the entire review

Karloff is a scientist whose family harvested a radioactive meteor when it plummeted to the Earth, two generations ago. Thinking the family Satan worshippers (no doubt because of the effects of the meteor's radiation on both flora and fauna) the locals in the adjoining village all but shun the very name of the family. After receiving a cable to come and collect Karloff's daughter, Nick Adams is met with a stereotypically chilly British greeting from the townspeople whenever he mentions Karloff or the family name. Unable to procure any transport to his hosts' residence, Adams hoofs it through the foggy and treacherous hillside. Once at the family manse, Adams is rebuffed by a wheelchair-bound Karloff who if he had his way, would send Adams back home in a box.
