New Movie Reviews: Evil Dead (2013), Trance, and Jurassic Park 3D
Evil Dead (2013) It'd be a good weekend to go to the movies. Here are DVDTalk's recent theatrical reviews: Evil Dead (2013) - the much anticipated remake of the Sam Rami horror classic finally gets released and its a fun experience in the movie theater since it's even better when you're watching it with an audience; Trance - a solid thriller from director Danny Boyle; Jurassic Park 3D - the extra dimension is pretty convincing, and does add to the thrills;and The Place Beyond the Pines - a multi-generational tale that spans fifteen years in Schenectady, NY, showing the interweaving stories of fathers and sons and how fate can often pull a double-cross as they age and evolve. Other recent films include: G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Olympus Has Fallen, The Croods, The We and the I, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, Oz The Great and Powerful, and Jack the Giant Slayer. Check out these, and more, in DVDTalk's Theatrical Review section.

DVD Savant: The Hudsucker Proxy, Bewitched, and The Red Menace
The Hudsucker Proxy This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: The Hudsucker Proxy - This Coen Brothers' film is an infectiously crazy comedy about a new toy invention that is so stupid, it's brilliant; Bewitched - Arch Oboler's first studio feature is an interesting precursor to Psycho about a woman with a dual personality; and The Red Menace - The grandaddy of all unintenionally funny Reds-In-Your-Beds exposé dramas, this Republic Pictures pot-boiler has decent acting, interesting characters and a script so daft that making a satirical spoof is completely unnecessary. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

This Week's Notable Releases: Dirk Gently, John Dies at the End, and Knuckleball
Dirk Gently It's a bit of a slow week for new home video releases, but there are still some discs you might want to take note of including: Dirk Gently [review] - Douglas Adams' holistic detective arrives on the small screen thanks to the BBC and the results are some cracking good tales; John Dies at the End [review] - director Don Coscarelli (Bubba Ho-Tep) releases his first film in a decade and it has flashes of exuberance and wit, and its manic comic momentum carries it a long way; and Knuckleball! [review] - a documentary on a pitch used in baseball may sound odd, but the history is fascinating, the protagonists are likable, and there's some genuine emotion in its concluding sections. Be sure to check out our DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.

Recent Reviews: The Fury, On Approval, and A Man Escaped
The Fury Some cool discs have been reviewed over the past week. Check out these recent entries: The Fury - the best that director Brian De Palma had to offer up to that point in his career... an utterly mesmerizing and affecting picture; On Approval - hailed as one of the best films of 1944, this movie is an intelligent, witty comedy featuring two British couples trying to get it together over a month on holiday; and A Man Escaped - probably director Robert Bresson's most accessible work, this disc includes a selection of supplemental materials that are extraordinarily enlightening and involving even by Criterion's normally very high standards. Other recent reviews include: The Dawn Patrol, Jackie Chan Double Feature: Police Story / Police Story 2, and Bestiaire.  Visit the DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.
