New Movie Reviews: Gravity
Gravity There aren't a lot of new theatrical reviews this week, but the one we have is a winner. Two the members of DVD Talk's review panel, Jeff Nelson and Jamie S. Rich, covered Gravity and they both gave the film five out of five stars and they seperately awarded it film the coveted "DVD Talk Collector Series" rating. Jamie S. Rich said that it just may be the best picture of 2013, while Jeff Nelson called it an absolute must-see and unlike any other film experience. It looks like that's the film to see this weekend! Other recent films include: Inequality for All, Prisoners, The World's End, Kick-Ass 2, Elysium, The Wolverine, I'm So Excited, and The Conjuring. DVD Savant: House of Wax, Angel and the Badman, and Alamo Bay
House of Wax This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: House of Wax - Warners is going to make a lot of 3D enthusiasts happy with this snappy restoration of the first and most popular 3D attraction... Vincent Price flexes his horror talent in the tale of the wax museum owner who compensates for his burned hands by putting real corpses on exhibit; Angel and the Badman - John Wayne's first film as producer is a charmer, a gentle pacifist western in which a budding outlaw (da Duke) is steered back to the side of good by an angelic, incredibly seductive Quaker pioneer girl (lovely Gail Russell); and Alamo Bay -Frenchman Louis Malle nails an All-American mix of economic frustration and racial bigotry with this saga about a small Texas fishing port that declares war on the immigrant Vietnamese that are providing unwanted competition. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

This Week's Notable Releases: The Amityville Horror Trilogy, Adele Blanc-Sec, and Jack Irish
The Amityville Horror Trilogy Some pretty cool discs are being released this week. Check out these new titles: The Amityville Horror Trilogy [review] - The movies themselves aren't the ‘be all, end all' in grueling horror but they're plenty entertaining just the same and fans of the franchise will appreciate both the supplements and the upgrade in quality from past releases; The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec [review] - this extended director's cut of the film is a slick, super-fun high adventure... it's charming, it's light, and it's great entertainment never striving for anything more than that and never really needing to; and Jack Irish: Set 1 [review] - this British mystery series is an enjoyable watch with smart casting, effective tension, and a hint of passion for good measure. Be sure to check out our DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.
