TV on DVD: The FBI, Fairy Tail, and Orphan Black
The FBI: The Complete Eighth Season TV on DVD remains very popular with more and more favorites being released. New TV reviews include: The FBI: The Complete Eighth Season - Still precision-made crime/noir mellers but it's clear the show was on auto-pilot by this late stage; Fairy Tail: Part 11 - there are few anime series out there that are currently as entertaining and involving as this action packed and humor-filled creation; and Orphan Black: Season 2 - Tatiana Maslany plays several identical genetic clones, almost all of them unaware the others exists, in this interesting series from Canada. DVD Savant: Werner Herzog, Dark Crimes, and Scanners
Werner Herzog: The Collection This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: Werner Herzog: The Collection - a massive group of films from one of the world's most original filmmakers... sixteen features and documentaries are packed with director commentaries and other extras, including a 40-page book; Dark Crimes Volume Two - The folks at Turner Classic Movies combine the Fritz Lang Paramount titles Ministry of Fear and You and Me with a pair of mid-century Universal thrillers Undertow and Hollywood Story by William Castle; and Scanners - David Cronenberg concocts a great thriller about psychic warfare among mutants altered by an experimental drug. This Week's Notable Releases: Community, Grizzly, and Ping Pong Summer
Community: Season 5 Some great discs are being released this week. Check out these new movies: Community: Season 5 [review] - season five included some of the finest episodes the show has ever made... this DVD set looks and sounds great and is loaded with entertaining extras; Grizzly [review] - the giant animals attack genre looked cool as hell back in the '70s, and it's still well worth the time of genre fans... this excellent example of the genre gets some well-deserved love on this great looking and sounding DVD; and Ping Pong Summer [review] - a love song to the joy of the 80's and the good times that the filmmaker experienced with classic 80's cinema and music.
