New Movie Reviews: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay and Keep On Keepin' On
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part I It'd be a good weekend to go to the movies. Here are DVD Talk's recent theatrical reviews: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part I - a perfect example of a final entry that didn't need to be separated into two films... part one is practically starved of the impact that this franchise is famous for; Keep On Keepin' On - you don't have to know jazz to enjoy the new music documentary about trumpet player Clark Terry and one of his protégés - his one-liners and homilies will have you laughing just as much as his famous tunes will have you tapping your toes; and A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night - more than your typical vampire flick,it's an intriguing look at two people who are simply looking for a clean slate to start a better life. Other recent films include: Big Hero 6, Interstellar, The Theory of Everything, John Wick, Laggies, John Wick, Laggies, Force Majeure, Birdman, Fury, Dracula Untold, Gone Girl, Harmontown, A Walk Among the Tombstones, and The Maze Runner. . Check out these, and more, in DVDTalk's Theatrical Review section.

Batman The Complete TV Series Limited Edition Blu-ray Interested in the latest TV on DVD reviews? DVD Talk has you covered! This week's notable entries include: Batman The Complete TV Series Limited Edition Blu-ray - between the wonderfully silly show, the quality of the presentation, and the excellent extras that have been included, this set is one all Batman fans will want to own; Criminal Minds: Season 9 - the writing, the direction and the execution of these episodes make this a must-watch show; and Getting On: Season 1 - an oppressively dark comedy that's definitely not for everyone, but it's a brilliantly written and acted show and if you have a particularly sick sense of humor you should give it a chance. Other shows recently reviewed include:  Mythbusters: Collection 11, Awkward: Season 3, and Annie Oakley: The Complete TV Series.  Want more?  Check out all of the TV on DVD reviews in the DVD Talk database.

DVD Savant: Gorky Park, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and The Conformist
Gorky Park This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: Gorky Park - William Hurt blooms in a superior murder thriller with a unique setting: he plays a Moscow policemen who must solve a grisly killing that may implicate someone from the KGB. It's career suicide time as Hurt's cop deals with the black market, a friend of the victims who won't talk and an American businessman with an investment interest in Russian sable furs (Lee Marvin in one of his last roles). Great action and intrigues from topflight director Michael Apted; The Picture of Dorian Gray - High-toned producer-director Albert Lewin found the perfect horror story for his temperament, Oscar Wilde's creepy parable about a man who takes a dare with a painting and a promise; and The Conformist - Bernardo Bertolucci's dazzling investigation into the Fascist personality is still an intellectual challenge and visual dazzler. Jean-Louis Trintignant is the cipher who becomes an assassin to find his place in a new order. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

This Week's Notable Releases: 22 Jump Street, Kiki's Delivery Service, It Happened One Night
22 Jump Street There are a few new releases this week that you won't want to miss. Check out these hot titles: 22 Jump Street [review] - The gang comes back for another installment undercover, only this time, they go to college... damned enjoyable to experience; Kiki's Delivery Service [review] - a simple story told extremely well... charming characters adorn the story of Kiki's ups and down in discovering herself, giving the story a rich backdrop as it sweeps us along with her broomstick rides across a gloriously animated landscape; and It Happened One Night - The Criterion Collection [review] - the influance of Frank Capra's romantic comedy is still felt today, not least of the reasons being the film itself holds up perfectly on the strength of the chemistry between its two leads (Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert) and Capra's excellent sense of tone. Other reviews of note include: The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari [review], Mauvais Sang [review], and Boy Meets Girl (1984) [review]. Be sure to check out our DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.

Recent Reviews: La Bamba, Happy Christmas, and Marvel Knights: Eternals
La Bamba Check out the latest reviews that have been entered into the DVD Talk Review Database including: La Bamba - Writer/director Luis Valdez uses pop star Ritchie Valens's brief life as an opportunity to craft a naturalistic family drama and Twilight Time's Blu-ray offers a technically top-notch presentation for this underrated gem; Happy Christmas - a top-notch, improvised film by Joe Swanberg that gives us as true a story of BFFs as you're ever likely to see; and Marvel Knights: Eternals - a truly must-watch program... far removed from anything else to fall under the Marvel Knights banner, Neil Gaiman and John Romita Jr's loving revitalization of Jack Kirby's cerebral celestial saga is pure class. Other recent reviews include: Nothing Bad Can Happen, Princess Mononoke, and Under Fire.  Visit the DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.
