New Movie Reviews: Despicable Me 2 and The Way, Way Back
Despicable Me 2 Check out DVDTalk's latest reviews of movies that are in theatrical release. This week's crop includes: Despicable Me 2 - unfortunately, this sequel lacks a lot of the appeal that the original film had; and The Way, Way Back - a charming coming-of-age flick... a standout that will surely please viewers. TV on DVD: Fat Albert, Lord Peter Wimsey Mysteries, and Todd & the Book of Pure Evil
Fat Albert And The Cosby Kids: The Complete Series More TV shows have made their way on to DVD, and DVD Talk has got them covered. Check out our reviews of the newest TV releases including: Fat Albert And The Cosby Kids: The Complete Series - those old enough to remember it should enjoy this whopping 15-disc boxed set that herds together all 110 episodes of the classic series; Lord Peter Wimsey Mysteries: Complete Collection - the tales of this iconic character are well paced, funny, exciting, and provide the intricate puzzles; and Todd & the Book of Pure Evil: The Complete Second Season - this is pretty great stuff... it's consistently funny, sometimes pretty shocking, and it's also often times quite clever. DVD Savant: Black Sabbath, Showdown at Boot Hill, and El Sicario Room 164
Black Sabbath This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: Black Sabbath -Mario Bava's scary omnibus of horror tales reaches Region A Blu-ray in its original Italian version and with a stunning HD transfer; Showdown at Boot Hill - Charles Bronson is a bounty hunter who catches his prey in a small town, only to find that the townspeople are friends with the dead murderer, and won't identify his body; and El Sicario Room 164 - A harrowing documentary: a narco hitman tells us the truth of how he kidnapped, tortured and murdered for the Mexican drug cartels. This Week's Notable Releases: The Producers, The Up Series, and Kentucky Fried Movie
The Producers Another banner week for DVDs with the studios releasing some great films and boxed sets such as: The Producers [review] - This hilarious, irreverent film is rightfully considered one of the funniest comedies ever made and this Blu-ray release has excellent picture and sound quality along with an assortment of quality extras; 56 Up [review] and The Up Series [review] - the latest entry in Michael Apted's amazing series of documentaries, filming a divergent group of people every seven years to see how their lives unfold, is just as enthralling as the earlier entries; and Kentucky Fried Movie [review] -a silly, ribald good time with some iconic gags and this presentation makes it worth the upgrade for owners of the previous release. Recent Reviews: Stoker, Of Human Bondage, and The Mask Of Dimitrios
Stoker Some great DVD and Blu-ray reviews have been added to the the DVD Talk Review Database recently including: Stoker - an artsy and dark piece of cinema that begs to be seen multiple times; Of Human Bondage: Kino Classics Remastered Edition - this 1934 silver-screen version of W. Somerset Maugham's perennially admired and beloved novel is surprisingly fluent and hard-hitting; and The Mask Of Dimitrios - a highly recommended film noir starring Peter Lorre and Sydney Greenstreet that is clearly patterned after The Maltese Falcon and Casablanca.
