DVD Savant: Shoah, Retreat, Hell!, and The Painted Veil
Shoah This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: Shoah - Claude Lanzmann's nine-hour, 26-minute epic documentary on the Holocaust is unmatched in its field; Retreat, Hell! - This supposedly minor Joseph H. Lewis turns out to be the least hectoring Korean War combat picture -- that means it's also the best; and The Painted Veil - MGM simplifies W. Somerset Maugham's novel and makes all the characters noble to the point of unreality. But Greta Garbo brings it all back to life again. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
