New Movie Reviews: Surrogates, Paranormal Activity, and Fame
Bruce Willis is roped into a case of robot murder in the sci-fi thriller Surrogates. The house is haunted and nobody can act in Paranormal Activity. And the hopes and dream of young artists are reborn in the 2009 remake of Fame. Also in theaters: Michael Moore is back to tackle the American financial system in Capitalism: A Love Story. Poet John Keats is romanced in Jane Campion's drama Bright Star. Walt Disney takes a trip in Walt & El Grupo. Dennis Quaid heads into deep space in the horror film Pandorum. And an unreal amount of misogyny is handed multiplex space in the comedy I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell. Be sure to catch reviews of other recent Theatrical Films: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Jennifer's Body, Antichrist, Blood Creek, Halloween II, 9, Inglourious Basterds, The September Issue, Love Happens, Cold Souls, The Baader Meinhof Complex, and It Might Get Loud. As always, we invite you to share your thoughts on films In Theaters in our Movie Talk Forum.

DVD Savant: Gojira, Billy Jack, and Wagon Master
Gojira [Blu-ray] This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: Gojira [Blu-ray] - Rumors of fancy new Japanese HD transfers of Toho classics gave monster fans high hopes for this new Blu-ray of the original Tokyo Stomper. Unfortunately, the earlier DVD special edition is better both for quality and extras; The Complete Billy Jack Collection - The entire Tom Laughlin Billy Jack opus biggus has been gathered into one deluxe boxed set, with multiple commentaries. Get 'em while they're half-baked: The Born Losers, Billy Jack, the deranged The Trial of Billy Jack and the Jimmy Stewart copycat Billy Jack Goes to Washington. Writer-director-star Laughlin certainly predicted today's insane political atmosphere -- there's enough faux-pacifism and paranoid alarmism here to confuse anybody; and Wagon Master - This endearing wagon train movie is one of John Ford's favorites, a gentle desert trek with an amiable hero (Ben Johnson), an independent heroine (Joanne Dru) and reels of beautiful B&W images. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
