New Movie Reviews: The Counselor, Blue is the Warmest Color, and Rifftrax Live
The Counselor Check out DVD Talk's latest reviews of movies that are in theatrical release. This week's crop includes: The Counselor [a 2nd review] - author Cormac McCarthy wrote the screenplay for this multifaceted crime film directed by Ridley Scott; Blue is the Warmest Color - writer/director Abdellatif Kechiche's newest feature is outstanding... there aren't very many romantic dramas that are able to captivate audiences in the same way that this one does; and Rifftrax Live: Night of the Living Dead - The Rifftrax crew hit another home run with this hilarious and entertaining show. Other recent films include: Carrie (2013),12 Years a SlaveGravity, Inequality for All, Prisoners, The World's End, Kick-Ass 2, Elysium, The Wolverine, and I'm So Excited. TV on DVD: The Hollow Crown, The Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts, and Enlightened
The Hollow Crown: The Complete Series More TV shows have made their way on to DVD, and DVD Talk has got them covered. Check out our reviews of the newest TV releases including: The Hollow Crown: The Complete Series - Wholly entertaining in every way, this adaptation of Shakespeare bridges the gap between the learned aficionado and the curious novice and is one of the must-see releases of 2013; The Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts: Complete DVD Collection - a who's who of top name talent, these roasts are still hilarious... great comedians, cutting barbs, and some 'I can't believe he said that' moments make this a highly recommended set; and Enlightened: The Complete Second Season -another fine effort from HBO - a relevant, entertaining and well-acted effort from co-creators Mike White and Laura Dern. Other shows recently reviewed include:  Robot Chicken: Season Six, Midsomer Murders: Series 3, and Grey's Anatomy: The Complete Ninth Season.  Want more?  Check out all of the TV on DVD reviews in the DVD Talk database.

DVD Savant: Hands of a Stranger, Untold History of the United States, and House on Straw Hill
Hands of a Stranger This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: Hands of a Stranger - A famous pianist's talented hands are mangled in a car wreck, so a daring surgeon grafts on a fresh pair from a recent corpse -- a criminal known for strangling people; Untold History of the United States - an alternate read of American history that makes a lot more sense than the self-congratulatory Official Versions. It's a monumental work and actually a pretty valid one; and House on Straw Hill - One of the original horrors labeled a 'video nasty' and banned in the UK, this suspenseful shocker doesn't try to hide its ambition to be grossout exploitation fare. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

This Week's Notable Releases: The Vincent Price Collection, Necessary Evil, and Chilling Visions
The Vincent Price Collection Some great discs are being released this week just in time for Halloween viewing. Check out these new movies: The Vincent Price Collection [review] - The six films in this Blu-ray collection are all excellent and a shining example of why Vincent Price was one of the most popular and enduring horror actors; Necessary Evil: Super-Villains of DC Comics [review] - this documentary on the nogoodnicks in the DC Universe is a detailed and very thoughtful discussion of the roles of villains in storytelling; and Chilling Visions: 5 Senses of Fear [review] - these five short films made by five separate filmmakers should appeal to those with a taste for quirky, spooky short films. Be sure to check out our DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.
