Troma invades DVD Stalk!
Troma invades DVD Stalk In celebration of Halloween, Troma has invaded DVD Talk and taken over our horror column, DVD Stalk for the entire month of October. They've kicked editor Ian Jane out on his ear and are bringing a huge helping of Toxie madness to the table (and they avoid mixing their metaphors too!) Check out the updates EVERY WEEKDAY to learn about the history of Troma, info on their latest releases, and to see if Lloyd Kaufman is really as strange as he appears to be. (Yes, he is.) Click here to check out all of the Troma goodness all this month in DVD Stalk!

New Movie Reviews: Couples Retreat, Ong Bak 2: The Beginning, and A Serious Man
Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, Malin Akerman, and Kristen Bell are trying to make sense of marriage in the awful comedy Couples Retreat. Martial arts master Tony Jaa returns to the screen in the bewildering prequel Ong Bak 2: The Beginning. And the Coen Brothers mix Judaism and Minnesota in the black comedy A Serious Man. Read reviews from Jason Bailey and Jamie S. Rich. Also in theaters: The story of Brian Clough is told in the English football drama The Damned United. The men in black are back in the documentary sequel The Yes Men Fix the World. Actor Tom Hardy is pure rage in the prison farce Bronson. Save the world with the No Impact Man. And Michelle Monaghan is the Trucker. Be sure to catch reviews of other recent Theatrical Films: Zombieland, Whip It, The Invention of Lying, Toy Story & Toy Story 2 (3-D Double Feature), I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell, Surrogates, Pandorum, Capitalism: A Love Story, Trick 'r Treat, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Antichrist, and It Might Get Loud. DVD Savant: The Stepfather, Suspense, and Go into Your Dance
The Stepfather This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: The Stepfather - Terry O'Quinn makes history in this fine horror thriller about families, paternal authority, and the need to GET SOME ORDER AROUND HERE. Good extras for a highly recommended classic; Suspense - Monogram -- yes, Monogram -- pulls out the stops for this lavish show-biz film noir combining Ice Skating and murder. Slick huckster Barry Sullivan cuckolds impresario Albert Dekker for the love of his wife, Belita ... but gets more than he bargained for. Great sets & stylized performances; and Go into Your Dance - Egotistical, overbearing and incredibly talented Al Jolson plays Al Howard, an egotistical, overbearing but talented singing sensation trying to get back on Broadway with the help of Glenda Farrell and Ruby Keeler. A time-capsule star vehicle with two terrific Al Dubin - Harry Warren songs, About a Quarter of Nine and She's a Latin from Manhattan. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

DVDTalk Book Reviews: Japanese Cinema, Evelyn Brent, and the Marx Brothers
DVDTalk Book Reviews This month we have a quartet of movie related book reviews for the bibliophiles out there. At the top of the list is a work by DVDTalk reviewer Stuart Galbraith IV. His book Japanese Cinema offers an excellent overview of the history movies from the Land of the Rising Sun. Next up is a biography of silent star Evelyn Brent, and that's followed by a review of Whiteout. No, not the film but the graphic novel the movie was based on. Wrapping up this month's installment is a look at The Marx Brothers and the social commentary that was an integral part of their movies. Read about all of this and more in this month's Book Talk.
