The M.O.D. Squad: Halloween Edition 2011
The M.O.D. Squad In this special Halloween edition of The M.O.D. Squad we take a look at some horror films. The column is chock-full of frightful reviews (wait a minute...), with the spotlight on the brilliant Italian psychological/splatter ghost story, A Quiet Place in the Country. We also have capsule reviews of that great Australian genre flick Razorback, The Incredible Melting Man (which proved that Joe Six-pack would go to the theater specifically to see some dude's face melt), and the Lon Chaney 'old house on the hill' silent movie The Monster. We also have announcements about upcoming M.O.D. releases, reviews, and more. Read all about it in the latest installment of The M. O. D. Squad!

DVD Savant: Dressed to Kill, Robocop 2, and Stagecoach
Dressed to Kill This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: Dressed to Kill - Brian De Palma plugs an art museum scene from one Hitchcock movie into the entire thematic - visual framework of another Hitchcock movie, adds a lot of voyeuristic sex and comes up with one of his biggest hits; Robocop 2 - Never rescued from its reputation as an underperforming loser, this first RoboCop sequel nevertheless stays true to the original's cynical, violent satire on corporate America's economic makeover of the country; and Stagecoach - One of the biggest "big mistake" remakes of all time, Gordon Douglas's colorful CinemaScope revisit of John Ford's 1939 classic showcases a mixed bag of star talent. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

This Week's Notable DVDs: Chuck, Terri, and Horrible Bosses
Chuck: The Complete Fourth Season Another banner week for DVDs with the studios releasing some great films such as: Chuck: The Complete Fourth Season [Blu-ray review] - a wonderfully entertaining show that's willing to take risks to keep the program fresh and interesting; Terri [Blu-ray review] - a thoughtful, compassionate, open-eyed and affectionately comical look at a kid who's an outsider; and Horrible Bosses [Blu-ray review] - a helluva lot of fun, and the pretty much perfect cast they've piled together is having such a blast that it really is infectious. Other reviews of note include The Tree of Life [Blu-ray review], Boccaccio '70 [Blu-ray review], and Maniac Cop [Blu-ray review].  Be sure to check out our DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.

New DVD Reviews: Jackie Brown, A Quiet Place in the Country, and The Last House on the Left
Jackie Brown This week the DVD Talk Review Database has some great new entries, including a few discs you may have overlooked. Recent DVD reviews include: Jackie Brown - Quentin Tarantino's only "straight" crime thriller is a masterful adaptation of an Elmore Leonard tale; A Quiet Place in the Country - Writer/director Elio Petri creates a completely unstable environment for his tale of personal madness, artistic chaos, and supernatural violence; and The Last House on the Left - as confrontational and disturbing as ever and this Blu-ray offers it up in the best quality we've seen on home video so far. Other recent reviews include: The Strange Case of Angelica; Visions of Eight, and Frankenhooker.  Visit the DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.
