DVD Talk at the 49th Annual New York Film Festival
The 49th annual New York Film Festival is in full swing, and DVD Talk's own Jason Bailey has taken in several of the fest's most exciting films. Keira Knightley, Viggo Mortensen, and Michael Fassbender star in David Cronenberg's psychological drama A Dangerous Method, while Kirsten Dunst shines in Lars Von Trier's controversial Melancholia. The story of the West Memphis Three comes to a (relatively) happy ending in the new documentary Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory. Elizabeth Olsen gives a breakthrough performance in the extraordinary Martha Marcy May Marlene. And Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi is the subject of the experimental documentary This Is Not A Film. Be sure to check out our reviews of earlier NYFF selections, including George Harrison: Living in the Material World, Carnage, A Separation, and Tahrir. You can keep track of Jason's NYFF progress via Twitter, and you can read his festival reviews in our Theatrical Reviews section.

New Movie Reviews: The Ides of March, Real Steel, and The Swell Season
This week in theaters, idealistic Ryan Gosling gets a crash course in presidential politics in George Clooney's The Ides of March. Hugh Jackman enters the fray of robot boxing (yes, seriously) in Real Steel. And the romance of Once gets the nonfiction treatment in The Swell Season. Also in theaters: A controversial Texas death penalty case is investigated in Incendiary: The Willingham Case, and Sam Shepard plays an aged Butch Cassidy in the "what-if" western Blackthorn. Be sure to catch reviews of other recent Theatrical Films: 50/50, Dream House, Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil, Sarah Palin: You Betcha!, You Don't Like the Truth: 4 Days Inside Guantanamo, Moneyball, Killer Elite, Machine Gun Preacher, Shut Up Little Man! An Audio Misadventure, Puncture, Drive, and The Lion King 3D.. As always, we invite you to share your thoughts on films In Theaters in our Movie Talk Forum.

DVD Savant: Mimic, Hero's Island, and Visions of Eight
Mimic This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: Mimic - The timing of the disc release of Guillermo del Toro's intelligent, scary sci-fi tale about a murderous colony of super-cockroaches is astute: it has a lot in common with the big hit Contagion; Hero's Island - This obscure but artistic and well-written Leslie Stevens movie was made just before The Outer Limits; and Visions of Eight - Docu producer David Wolper looses eight international directors on the '72 Munich Olympics in and comes up with some really great sports filmmaking. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
