New Movie Reviews: Darling Companion and The Moth Diaries
This week in theaters, filmmaker Lawrence Kasdan returns to the director's chair after nearly a decade for the ensemble comedy/drama Darling Companion, featuring Diane Keaton, Kevin Kline, Richard Jenkins, Dianne Weist, Elisabeth Moss, and Mark Duplass. And American Psycho director Mary Harron is back (also after a lengthy hiatus) with the gothic schoolgirl tale The Moth Diaries. TV on DVD: Bob's Burgers, Kojak, and BBC Natural History Collection
Bob's Burgers: Season 1 TV on DVD remains very popular with more and more favorites being released. New TV reviews include: Bob's Burgers: Season 1 - Fox has finally found a quality fit for their Sunday animation line-up that doesn't involve Groening or MacFarlane; Kojak: Season Three - Smart, complex, electrifying at times this third season shows no signs of its quality falling off; and BBC Natural History Collection - Four fantastic programs - a must purchase release for those not owning these fantastic titles. DVD Savant: Camelot, Ransom Baby, and David Lean
Camelot This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: Camelot -The big-screen adaptation of the Broadway hit stars Richard Harris, Vanessa Redgrave and Franco Nero; it still has some great scenes as well as some favorite Lerner & Loewe music and lyrics; Ransom Baby - This patched-together uncut caper-kidnapping saga is dubbed in Italian with Italian main titles, despite being a made-in-Greece copycat of the popular Italian thrillers of the day; and David Lean directs Noël Coward - All produced by Noël Coward, David Lean's first four films have been given fantastic restorations by the BFI and all are keepers. This Week's Notable DVDs: Mission: Impossible, Frozen Planet, and Shame
Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol There are a few new releases this week that you won't want to miss. Check out these hot titles: Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol [Blu-ray review] - easily the best of the series thanks to the efforts of Tom Cruise and director Brad Bird to continually up the ante; Frozen Planet: The Complete Series [Blu-ray review] - a riveting and beautiful series that takes us to places we'll probably never get to go; and Shame [Blu-ray review] - a dark, entertaining portrait of serious addiction.
