DVD Savant: Away We Go, Today We Live, and That Hamilton Woman
Away We Go [Blu-ray] This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: Away We Go [Blu-ray] - John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph make an irresistible couple in an unusual comedy-drama about finding the right environment to raise a family. Great comedy despite an overstated character or two, directed by Sam Mendes; Today We Live - A weird hybrid of artistic ambition and studio glamour: Joan Crawford and Gary Cooper star in a WW1 tale written by William Faulkner and directed by Howard Hawks. Nobody sounds English and the entire show is twisted to shoehorn in a romantic subplot, but it's fascinating just the same. With aerial combat scenes from Hell's Angels; and That Hamilton Woman - Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier's greatest film pairing is also one of the most intense screen romances ever. Director-producer Alexander Korda's wartime propaganda is one of his last great productions and a classic of British filmmaking. With a great docu-interview with Michael Korda, Alexander's nephew. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

New Movie Reviews: Surrogates, Paranormal Activity, and Fame
Bruce Willis is roped into a case of robot murder in the sci-fi thriller Surrogates. The house is haunted and nobody can act in Paranormal Activity. And the hopes and dream of young artists are reborn in the 2009 remake of Fame. Also in theaters: Michael Moore is back to tackle the American financial system in Capitalism: A Love Story. Poet John Keats is romanced in Jane Campion's drama Bright Star. Walt Disney takes a trip in Walt & El Grupo. Dennis Quaid heads into deep space in the horror film Pandorum. And an unreal amount of misogyny is handed multiplex space in the comedy I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell. Be sure to catch reviews of other recent Theatrical Films: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Jennifer's Body, Antichrist, Blood Creek, Halloween II, 9, Inglourious Basterds, The September Issue, Love Happens, Cold Souls, The Baader Meinhof Complex, and It Might Get Loud. It'll be released just in time for Halloween on October 27. Keep track of all the upcoming releases with the DVDTalk Release List.

DVD Savant: Gojira, Billy Jack, and Wagon Master
Gojira [Blu-ray] This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: Gojira [Blu-ray] - Rumors of fancy new Japanese HD transfers of Toho classics gave monster fans high hopes for this new Blu-ray of the original Tokyo Stomper. Unfortunately, the earlier DVD special edition is better both for quality and extras; The Complete Billy Jack Collection - The entire Tom Laughlin Billy Jack opus biggus has been gathered into one deluxe boxed set, with multiple commentaries. Get 'em while they're half-baked: The Born Losers, Billy Jack, the deranged The Trial of Billy Jack and the Jimmy Stewart copycat Billy Jack Goes to Washington. Writer-director-star Laughlin certainly predicted today's insane political atmosphere -- there's enough faux-pacifism and paranoid alarmism here to confuse anybody; and Wagon Master - This endearing wagon train movie is one of John Ford's favorites, a gentle desert trek with an amiable hero (Ben Johnson), an independent heroine (Joanne Dru) and reels of beautiful B&W images. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

New Movie Reviews: Jennifer's Body, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and The Informant!
Starlet Megan Fox and screenwriter Diablo Cody combine forces to examine the demonic soul of the American teenager in Jennifer's Body. DVD Talk critics Brian Orndorf, Jamie S. Rich, and Jason Bailey believe the lies. Also in theaters: Lars von Trier brings the pain with Antichrist. The Red Army Faction story is told in The Baader Meinhof Complex. Aaron Eckhart and Jennifer Aniston find that Love Happens. Aussie farmboy teaches music to prisoners in Broken Hill. And John Malkovich finds his life torn apart in Disgrace. So check out these new movies and shows: X-Men Origins: Wolverine DVD and Blu-ray - though the film received only mixed reviews it still went on to gross over $360 million worldwide, which (if I may use a cliche to describe a cliche-filled movie) is nothing to sneeze at; The Big Bang Theory: Season Two [review] - the show continues with endless streams of clever nerd-based humor and great situational gags; and Next Day Air [review]- Don't listen to what the critics said (well, except our critic...) this is an entertaining film with a well-balanced mix of comedy, action and drama. Other releases of note include:  Iron Monkey (Blu-ray) [review], Trumbo [review], and Hero [review]. DVD Savant: Van Helsing, Private Century, and Die Walküre
Van Helsing [Blu-ray] This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: Van Helsing [Blu-ray] - Stephen Sommers' attempt to reboot the Classic Universal Horrors gets a fair trial on the Blu-ray format ... hey, that's a lot of, um, interesting CGI work, there. The films are amazing and the personal stories attain great novel status. Anime Talk: The latest anime reviews and Dragonball Evolution(?)
Anime Talk; Grave of the Fireflies and Dragonball Evolution(?) Okay, Anime Talk is finally here... a month late. Sorry about that! We've been busy, but not too busy here at DVD Talk. I don't know why we're looking at that, but what the heck! Check out all this and more in this month's Anime Talk!
