DVDTalk Spotlight: Dark Shadows The Complete Original Series
Dark Shadows The Complete Original Series The Gothic daytime soap opera, Dark Shadows, gets a deluxe complete series release next week. MPI really went all out on this release, crafting an eye-catching coffin-shaped case to hold the series. It's also one of the most massive DVD collections in recent memory. The set contains an astounding 1,225 episodes (!) that span 131 discs. If that's not enough, the price is incredibly reasonable too. DVDTalk reviewer John Sinnott had a chance to sit down with the set and while he didn't make it though all 450+ hours of the show (and that's not counting the five discs solely devoted to extras or the 120 interviews with the cast and crew scattered through the collection) he did get a good sampling of the show, enough to get him hooked! Read his full review of Dark Shadows: The Complete Original Series.

DVD Savant: Boeing Boeing, Assault on a Queen, and You Must Be Joking!
Boeing Boeing This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: Boeing Boeing - Tony Curtis and Jerry Lewis chase stewardesses around a Paris flat, in what may be the most dated sex comedy of the 1960s; Assault on a Queen - Fishing boat operator Frank Sinatra helps Anthony Franciosa raise a German submarine as a way of impressing Neapolitan beauty Virna Lisi; and You Must Be Joking! - Columbia's hodgepodge comedy mixes military antics with a cut-rate reprise of It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World but makes amends with a cast of always-amusing Brit comedians. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

This Week's Notable DVDs: Chinatown, The Double Hour, and Elmo
Chinatown Another banner week for DVDs with the studios releasing some great films and boxed sets such as: Chinatown [Blu-ray review] - one of the most exhilarating classics of that darker, richer, revisionist '70s American cinema that has come to be revered as Hollywood's final Golden Age; The Double Hour [DVD review] - This bendy Italian thriller is full of pulpy surprises. The script is smart, and the actors are excellent... it's a movie that deserves to be seen, talked about, debated, and passed on ; and Being Elmo: A Puppeteer's Journey [DVD review] - a thoroughly charming documentary. Other reviews of note include War Horse, Tyrannosaur [DVD review], and We Bought a Zoo.  Be sure to check out our DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.

The M.O.D. Squad: Busting, Andy Hardy, and Gog
The M.O.D. Squad: Busting, Andy Hardy, and Gog It's been a few months since the last M.O.D. Squad column, DVDTalk's look at Manufactured On Demand DVDs, so we have loads of one-stop reviews for you. First up is a spotlight review of director Peter Hyams' neglected cop actioner classic from 1974, Busting. There's also a look at The Andy Hardy Collection, Volume 1, sample of six films from the iconic series, a pair of related SF movies The Magnetic Monster, the 1953 Curt Siodmak monster flick and its "sequel," if you will, Gog, and the deliriously lurid, pre-Code thriller with supernatural elements, Thirteen Women. That's only scratching the surface. Check out all of this and much, much more in the latest installment of The M.O.D. Squad!

New DVD Reviews: The Muppets, My Joy, and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
The Muppets Our reviewers have been busy this week, filling the DVD Talk Review Database more great entries. Some new reviews of note include: The Muppets - Far better than one might have expected, this is one of last year's best surprises and a can't-miss title on Blu-ray; My Joy - Russian director Sergei Loznitsa's film is a work of art that aims for, and achieves, profundity and beauty; and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy - a change of pace within the spy/thriller genre, this is absolutely worth your time to check out. Other recent reviews include: Sullivan's Travels; Who's Minding the Store?, and It'$ Only Money.  Visit the DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.
