TV on DVD: Space Kidettes and Young Samson, The Cosmos: A Beginner's Guide, and Scarecrow and Mrs. King
Space Kidettes and Young Samson Some great TV shows have made their way onto DVD this week including: Space Kidettes and Young Samson - these two obscure cartoons from the 60's make for an enjoyable half hour show; The Cosmos: A Beginner's Guide - a wonderful first step into modern astronomy for the casual viewer wanting to broaden their minds; and Scarecrow and Mrs. King: The Complete Second Season - Escapist '80s television at its glossiest...and most charming. DVD Savant: Soylent Green, The Wild, Wild Planet, and Embodiment of Evil
Soylent Green This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: Soylent Green - Charlton Heston and Edward G. Robinson suffer in the overpopulated jungle of New York City, where normal food has become extinct and the Soylent Corporation serves up protein in little colored wafers. Definitely one of the better ecological disaster pictures; The Wild, Wild Planet - The best of the '60s Italo space operas is a fun diversion, even if it looks held together with duct tape and piano wire; and Embodiment of Evil - Just when you thought Coffin Joe was safely locked away, he comes back to once again torture and slaughter! DVDTalk's Second Annual Drive-In/Exploitation/B-Movie Challenge
Drive-In/Exploitation/B-Movie Challenge Are you a fan of off-beat movies? Not just a casual fan, but someone who can talk for hours on the relative merits of the various Bruce Lee imitators or has strong opinions about which scream queen has the best shriek? If so, DVDTalk has the event for you! It's time for our Second Annual Drive-In/Exploitation/B-Movie Challenge where uber-fans try to watch 100 B-movies in a single month and (optionally) complete the movie checklist that has such diverse items as watching a cannibal movie, a biker film, and a nunsploitation flick. If you think you're up to the challenge, or even if you just want to watch, check out the official Challenge thread and the list thread where competitors will post the movies they've screened. It'll be loads of fun, and there are prizes too! The fun all starts on March 31st.

New Game Reviews: Crysis 2, Ghostbusters, Angry Birds Rio
crysis 2 review Following up on the success of the original, Electronic Arts published the sequel to the jungle based, first person shooter Crysis this week. Check out our complete review of Crysis 2 released for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC. On the Xbox 360 Live Arcade, we reviewed Atari's Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime and Konami's movie related Battle: Los Angeles. Also on the Xbox 360, we took a look at 2K Sports Major League Baseball 2K11. Over on the Nintendo DS, we covered Capcom's action / adventure title Okamiden. Finally, on Apple's iPhone / iPad platforms, we reviewed the extremely popular Angry Birds Rio, a version of Angry Birds tied into the release of the animated feature Rio. DVD Savant: Capone, The Sleepy Eyes of Death, and The Tattooed Stranger
Capone This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: Capone - Ben Gazarra is Chicago's famous crime boss and Sylvester Stallone his Frank Nitti in Steve Carver's action-packed and historically accurate (at least the violent parts) account of ten fast years of Prohibition lawlessness; The Sleepy Eyes of Death Collector's Set Volume 2 - Handsome matinee idol Raizo Ichikawa portrays the deadly swordsman Nemuri Kyoshiro, a rogue killer for hire who gets into one complicated adventure after another. A superior and entertaining samurai series; and The Tattooed Stranger - The mystery of a woman murdered in Central Park leads slowly to the killer. DVD Savant: Moonstruck, Bambi, and High Wall
Moonstruck This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: Moonstruck - Norman Jewison brilliantly directs Nicolas Cage, Vincent Gardenia, Olympia Dukakis and especially Cher, bringing John Patrick Shanley's superb screenplay to life. A genuine 80s classic in a (finally) worthy Blu-ray presentation; Bambi - Disney's wildlife fantasy of seasons and cycles looks incredibly clean and vibrant on Blu-ray, and can probably start a big discussion over what constitutes a good restoration; and High Wall - Robert Taylor won't submit to psycho-medical procedures that might open him up to prosecution for murdering his wife -- but doctor Audrey Totter wants him to clear his name, no matter the risk. TV on DVD: Mystery Science Theater 3000, Patrice O'Neal, and Nurse Jackie
Mystery Science Theater 3000: Vol. XX TV on DVD remains very popular with more and more favorites being released. New TV reviews include: Mystery Science Theater 3000: Vol. XX - This show survives because it's funny, period; Patrice O'Neal - Elephant In The Room - it's a rare day when Patrice O'Neal isn't funny and this 77-minute set is more of his usual hysterical comedy; and Nurse Jackie - Season Two - this second season is not only even better than ever, but the show is moving toward that top-tier of great television. DVD Savant: All the President's Men, Two in the Wave, and Inside Job
All the President's Men This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: All the President's Men - It sounds like a flaky concoction, casting Hollywood stars Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford as dauntless journalistic heroes on a noble quest to take down a corrupt presidency. Alan J. Pakula's picture is instead one of the best real-life political thrillers of all time, and a docudrama that doesn't exaggerate the facts; Two in the Wave - A documentary about the friendship of the two most famous directors of the French New Wave, Francois Truffaut and Jean-Luc Godard; and Inside Job - Charles Ferguson's documentary expertly communicates the fleecing of America by investment banks, showing up the venal thieves and liars for what they are without taking partisan sides.
