A Scanner Darkly This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: A Scanner Darkly - An all-star cast become semi-animated graphic novel figures in Richard Linklater's intelligent adaptation of Philip K. Dick's paranoid classic about fear and angst among 'recreational' drug users. Reality really breaks down; this makes a better anti-drug case than all the old scare films put together; Tiger Shark - Howard Hawks defines his male bonding, tough-guy romance style with this early talkie starring Edward G. New Game Reviews: Plants vs. Zombies, Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. 2, Batman: The Brave and the Bold
Plants vs Zombies Review Adapted by PopCap Games for the Xbox Live Arcade, an excellent version of the popular zombie munching game hit the Xbox 360 this week. DVD Savant: Time Bandits, Ajami, and The Grasshopper
Time Bandits This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: Time Bandits - Terry Gilliam's first fanciful epic comedy hits Blu-ray with all six of its diminutive Time Bandits intact, along with Sean Connery, Michael Palin, John Cleese, Shelley Duvall, Ralph Richardson and David Warner. More imagination and cinematic creativity here than in ten CGI sagas; Ajami - One of last year's Best Foreign Film nominees, this controversial Israeli film portrays the tensions, mindless persecution and catch-22 hopelessness in a Arab ghetto of Jaffa stricken with all the evils of the drug traffic; and The Grasshopper - Lovely Jacqueline Bisset offers an excellent performance as a shallow girl overwhelmed by good times and easy living in Las Vegas ... and who suffers for her bad judgment and bad luck. Jim Brown co-stars in this early test of the Ratings system, sort of Showgirls twenty-five years earlier with a modicum of sensitivity. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
