This Week's Notable DVDs: Vampire Diaries, Evil Dead, and Red Riding Trilogy

DVDTalk Spotlight: 9th Company
9th Company Winner of the Russian "Nika" Award for Best Picture and an Academy-Award Selection for Best Foreign Film, Fyodor Bondarchuk's 9th Company will be released August 31st by Well Go USA. Available on both DVD and Blu-ray as Standard and Collector's editions, this important film will be presented in the original Russian-language version, along with a newly created English dubbed soundtrack. Compared to such American war film classics as Apocalypse Now, Full Metal Jacket, and Platoon, 9th Company is an epic war film in the truest sense. DVD Savant: The Long Good Friday, Dealing, and Steamboat Bill, Jr.
The Long Good Friday This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: The Long Good Friday - Image Entertainment brings us a Blu-ray of this modern gangster classic, starring a ferocious Bob Hoskins in a star-making turn as a Cockney ganglord; Dealing - This odd hipster drama about a college slacker sinking neck-deep into the drug game benefits from good performances, especially from Barbara Hershey and first-timer John Lithgow; and Steamboat Bill, Jr. - the second hilarious Buster Keaton classic in Blu-ray. DVD Talk Feature: Star Wars Celebration V
Star Wars Celebration V The force was strong with the sweltering city of Orlando, Florida last weekend when Jedi master George Lucas brought his convention behemoth, Star Wars Celebration V, to town. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World Roundtable Interview
Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World The one summer movie that most of the DVDTalk review panel is really anticipating is Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. Based on a series of graphic novels created by Bryan Lee O'Malley, the film is directed by Edgar Wright and stars Michael Cera. DVDTalk writer Tyler Foster had a chance to sit down with Wright, Cera and supporting actress Anna Kendrick to talk about the movie and the source material, and the slowed-down cut of the film.
