DVD Savant: The Asphyx, Westward the Women, and Désirée
The Asphyx This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: The Asphyx - This 70s shocker may not be perfect, but it has a genuinely horrid quality, an intelligent idea and some fine performances; Westward the Women - William Wellman's fine wagon train movie should be recognized as a classic; and Désirée - Marlon Brando takes a shot at playing Napoleon Bonaparte. A good sidebar of French history seen from a soapy romantic angle, this early CinemaScope offering is the closest Brando got to becoming just another Hollywood movie star. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

New DVD Reviews: A Night to Remember, Lost Keaton, and The Ring

DVDTalk Spotlight: Dark Shadows The Complete Original Series
Dark Shadows The Complete Original Series The Gothic daytime soap opera, Dark Shadows, gets a deluxe complete series release next week. MPI really went all out on this release, crafting an eye-catching coffin-shaped case to hold the series. It's also one of the most massive DVD collections in recent memory. The set contains an astounding 1,225 episodes (!) that span 131 discs. If that's not enough, the price is incredibly reasonable too. DVDTalk reviewer John Sinnott had a chance to sit down with the set and while he didn't make it though all 450+ hours of the show (and that's not counting the five discs solely devoted to extras or the 120 interviews with the cast and crew scattered through the collection) he did get a good sampling of the show, enough to get him hooked! Read his full review of Dark Shadows: The Complete Original Series.
